Bringing out the best in each and every child

Absence and Late Procedures

Absence

If your child is going to be absent, parents must inform school as soon as possible and at the latest by 9.15 am on the first day of absence. Parents must also ensure that school has up-to-date contact information for themselves and emergency contacts.

If your child is absent and we have not heard from you, we will telephone you on the first day of absence to find out what the reason is and when your child is expected to return. If we are unable to contact you, we will approach your emergency contacts and, if necessary, make a home visit. These are part of our safeguarding procedures. Our absolute priority is the safety of the children and it is vital that we know where your children are. A telephone call or sometimes a home visit is to make sure we know the location of your child, to ensure that they didn’t set off for school and not arrive.

Late Arrivals

School opens at 8:45am. The school day starts officially at 8:55am and any child arriving after 9am is late.  Please ensure that your child is on time for school as being late is not only disruptive to their learning but it also disrupts the learning of others.

The register closes at 9:25am, arrival after this time without a satisfactory reason are marked as U which is an unauthorised absence. If this were to be recorded 10 times within a 10-week period, the guidance would be a statutory fine of £160 per parent (halved if paid within 21 days for the first instance).
